The Great Guinness Toast is an annual event, celebrated each year by hundreds of thousands of people across the U.S. The date of the toast is up for debate, but in Buffalo, it’s celebrated the third Friday in February, to kick off the St. Patrick’s season.
The Great Guinness Toast…also known as “St. Practice Day”, is made up of Guinness drinkers across the country trying to break the record for the largest simultaneous toast. Since it’s inception in 1993, The Great Guinness Toast has consistently grown, and breaks its own record each and every year.
The concept of collectively raising a glass on the 3rd Friday in February and toasting with the famous black and creamy brew is an attempt to gain entrance into one of Arthur Guinness’s other select clubs; The Guinness Book of World Records…
The largest Buffalo-area celebration will be held at the Buffalo Irish Center, located at 245 Abbott Road in South Buffalo. The Toast is the Irish Center’s largest fundraiser. This past year has been difficult for them financially, with roof repairs, parking lot update, heating additions and alarm systems being a few obligations they’ve had to meet.
Tickets for this event are a dirt-cheap $12.50 at the door, with pre-sale tickets available for $10 at The Tara Gift Shoppe, located across the street from the Irish Center. At that price, why not go enjoy yourself a Guinness? You deserve it!
Doors are at 6 p.m., and the World’s Largest Toast itself will be held at 11 p.m. That’s plenty of time to get nice and festive, while checking out some of Buffalo’s fine Irish-influenced musical talent. Each year, local bands donate their time to help support the Irish Center, which is home to over a dozen non-profit Irish-American organizations dedicated to promoting and preserving Irish culture.
